I think I’m going to be…

October 7th, 2008 by Jen

a dentist. it’s a little bit like being a doctor but not such a long haul (i was considering it. i guess i’m around them too much. they work so hard though, i don’t think i’d have the energy). still have to sit umat though so i won’t be doing it next year. i would have to go to sydney uni. they don’t offer it at newcastle. so i’ll be back in newcastle next year and then sydney again, if i can handle it. such a lot of study. blech. i hope i can handle it.

sometimes i think i can, sometimes there’s just no way. i don’t know.

hopefully i can get in. i’m smart enough though, and they like you to be a bit older - well you actually have to have a degree already to even apply, so i guess graphic design wasn’t a complete waste of time. it’s a bit depressing to be going back to uni now.  i feel like i’m so old. still, it’s worth it if i actually know what i want to do. i never had that before. hopefully when i do some biomed/anatomy/pharmacology type subjects next year I won’t completely hate them and have this new idea blown out of the water. but i think it’ll be ok. i enjoyed biology in highschool and was naturally brilliant at it.

(well i was.)

they make shitloads of money. dentists. as in, you can work part time and still RAKE it in. yeah baby. :)

plus if i feel sad i can self medicate with happy gas. after hours of course, i wouldn’t go intoxicating myself prior to drilling in people’s mouths (yeah, that’s an idea i’m trying to get used to. and the sound of the drill… that’s a hard one).

in other news, i’m going on a tour of vietnam/cambodia/thailand early next year. at the moment i’m staying on in thailand for a week after i’m finished the tour, to go scuba diving.

The TV show is British (BBC, I think) and unusually for a British show, it has been showing on Channel 9 on Tuesdays at 10:30pm. However, this week they’ve taken it off air… not sure why. They had been playing two episodes back-to-back each week to create a one hour drama slot, when in Britain it showed as a half hour episode each week. So maybe they’ve gone through one season already?… Either way, you can find it in other places if you’re keen.

Sorry I missed Saturday. i was in newcastle, as always on the weekends. and on the non-weekends too after just two more weeks. feels like a long time. i feel strained. sydney has so much to offer. if i was normal.

i wish i was normal.

when is that show on lenka?

Phona this site is terribly plain. it’s no wonder no one looks at it anymore.

Sleep tested & sushi & TV show

September 25th, 2008 by Lenka

I had the sleep test this Tues/Wed… I must say it was one of the worst night’s sleep I’ve had in a while, what with the room being freezing and the multitude of wires stuck to my head, chest and legs. Quite skeptical about the test showing anything, as it really wasn’t like a normal night’s sleep for me. Oh well. Wait and see.

Also, I don’t think I can make it to Sydney this Saturday after all. I had high hopes, but I’ve been asked to do something on Sunday which requires a fair bit of preparation, so I’ll be working on that on Saturday.

Meanwhile, I’ve been watching the new-ish TV show ‘Secret Diary of a Call Girl’ with Billy Piper that’s been playing on channel 9, frankly because I was curious. It’s surprisingly not that shocking once you get over the premise of the show. But Fi, Rish, Crystal and Anna, I think it’s something you may enjoy. Or not. It just made me think of you.

Feeling yucky…

August 30th, 2008 by Lenka

I don’t know how long fitness takes, Jen. Probably ’cause I’ve never been really properly fit myself. But good luck with it! As for going back to Uni, that sounds like a good idea, especially if you’re not inspired by what you’re currently doing.

I’m feeling particularly ‘blurrrgh’ at the moment… Just finished my 3rd shift in two days, and my body aches, especially my feet and lower back. I think I was lifting things that were too heavy for me…hmmm…it’s because I find it hard to ask for help, especially if it’s something to do with proving strength. Problem is, I’m not strong anymore. A couple of years ago, I have strong and toned arms from tennis and piano-playing, and swimming… now I’m soft.

Am also just so tired, for no good reason. Had to drive to Warners Bay a couple of times today, and after the second trip, I fell asleep in the car (after I had parked it in the garage). I just closed my eyes for a minute to listen to the song playing on the car radio, and the next thing I know, it’s half and hour later and I’m waking up because my grandmother is making noise in the room next to the garage. I wish so much my energy would return to me… so frustrated at feeling yucky most of the time.

Hopefully by the end of October I shall know if there is anything I can do about my years-long lack of energy and not-quite-right immune system. I’m having some tests done in September at WBPHospital, and the results should be back by mid-October. Fingers crossed that the doctors can figure it all out.

That’s about it for now. Better get back to finishing something for church tomorrow. Hope you’re all well, and hope to hear from you, one way or another. :)
